Spinning wheels

3rd September 2009

Fun viral from Yamaha, about the upcoming 2010 version of their class-leading YZ450F dirt bike:

What’s clever is that Yamaha are deliberately playing up to their community of fans.  Rather than reacting angrily to the rumours and leaked specifications on blogs and forums, they are actually using community buzz as a marketing tool.  It’s a great idea and demonstrates how a big company can – and should – engage directly with a fanatical community.

And, on a personal note (being a rabid MotoGP fan), I’m also really impressed Yamaha has gotten sound bites from their top riders across all racing disciplines.  It gives the fans even more of what they want, whilst having some fun at the same time.

Given the heightened jostling for market dominance in the comparison site market at the moment, CompareTheMarket.com have launched a new viral campaign that bravely apes their own brand.

CompareTheMeerkat.com is fronted by Aleksandr, a likable, well dressed entrepreneurial meerkat with an amusing grasp of English. He’s also being used in their new TV campaign.
